Science – Putaiao

On Wednesday, we did science. We learnt about the Big Bang Theory. Now personally, I do not believe in this but I will tell you what I learnt anyway. It all started roughly 13.8 billion years ago when a force called dark matter was trying to pull a white singularity apart. When it did it caused a huge explosion that made the universe. Then protons and neutrons combined and turned into atoms. Over millions of years, the atoms formed planets, stars, asteroids, comets and meteors.

The first scientist to believe in such a theory was Georges Lemaître in 1927. He believed that the universe was made from this. He thought the universe was still expanding and it would never stop!

This is what I learned about the Big Bang Theory.

Production

On Wednesday 15th of October, Rawhiti School had its 10 year production. It was themed about celebration from around the world. This blog will tell you all about what we did and what it was about.

I’m in Tangaroa, and our theme was Diwali. There were 5 parts and they were : Narration, Colourful Dance , Black and white dance, Posters and Diya. I was in the Diya group. We were up last in our bit of the production, and we were the start of the finale. We were split into half and our group had to walk around the people, get to the stage, and be freindly by high fiving and stuff.

A RISE value I think I showed was resilience because I didn’t give up. I also think mostly everyone else did too. Overall I think we all did really well.  So that is what our production was all about.

Week 9 review

This week was a pretty good week and it started with Monday when I did band practice and found out we had to do a performance on Friday in assembly. The songs we were doing were safe and sound and that’s so true. Also I did a science kiwi competition test which I think I did pretty good on .

Then on Tuesday  I went to Shirley boys and Avonside girls high school to see their production of Mamma Mia. I think they did pretty good. There was a lot of dancing and singing. It was 2 hours long with an interval in the middle. In the interval they taught us some of the choreography for the song dancing queen.

On Thursday I went with the Childrens university to Canterbury university for the yearly trip. I got to do 4 activities. The first one was in product design, where we got to make wind powered car. We used masks as sails and we got to 5 meters! Our second activity was we had to make a tower using skewers and 3-d printed things that could withstand the shaker. Our one nearly survived then the top fell off.  We also did an ant colony thing and a geology thing.

On Friday we had an assembly. I got to perform in the band which was fun. Also the juniors performed and we watched some sand art about Matariki.  So that is what I did this week.

Week 7 blog

My week started with Monday, which was super rainy.Mostly all of our breaks were inside which was very annoying. I don’t really remember what happened that day except for fitness in which i chose to do all in tag. So that is Monday. 44

On Tuesday we finished our inquiry animation, which was about Maui and the sun. I like animations so it was pretty fun. We chose that because it is a pretty fun story to make into an animation style and also because it is pretty important to Maori culture as well. 50

On Thursday I went to tech and guess what I got to make. PANCAKES! We had to work in pairs and I got to make the dry ingredients. In the end they tasted really nice and when we got to put maple syrup on them they tasted even better! Our normal teacher was sick so we had a reliever who helped us make the pancakes. 65

Today is Friday and WINTER SPORTS IS CANCELLED. I’m kind of happy and kind of sad at the same time though because I think it is too cold to do it anyway but we didn’t do it last week either.40

A rise value I think I showed is success when I finished making my pancakes successfully. It was pretty hard because I had never made pancakes before but I did it so I was really happy about that.

Anyway, that was my week. See you next week. 48

Maths week 7

This week we did a sheet of 100 division questions. I got 100 out of 100. That’s the second time I have done that now! I think the thing I got most stuck on was the divide by seven questions. I don’t know why but seven is always the one that catches me out. Even in other math things like times tables and addition + subtraction. I think next time I should improve on speed because I got everything right which means I got accuracy down but it took me 9 minutes and 35 seconds to finish. That is what we did in maths this week.

Maths

Today in maths we did a sheet of 100 times tables. We were meant to put accuracy before speed because then we would get more questions right. We had ten minutes max to do all of them. I finished at 7 minutes and 37 seconds. Then we marked it. I got 100 out of 100! I have never done that before! I am happy with what I did but next time I would want to go a little bit faster because there was this one timetable that was annoying me. It was 7 x 8. It took much longer to do than the others. That is what we did in maths today.

Week 4 term 2 blog

This week at school we have been doing lots of things. In this blog I will tell you about some of them.

This week at tech I got to make french toast. It was more like french toast bread though because we used a type of bread that came from France. Anyway I learned how to use a stove top and when I had Cooked the bread I put Bananas and maple syrup on it to make it taste good.

At school we do things called passions which are these things you do that have some sort of learning in them. I do scratch coding because I like coding and then I will know how to code when I am older. I am working on a game in which you fight monsters to get to the boss fight and win the game. It is like a fighting adventure game. I think I will make it so there are levels in between fights and not just fighting. I have also made a crazy screensaver in which a cat multiplies gets smaller and changes color at the   same time.

That is what I have done this week. Next week I will have more stuff to tell you about. Goodbye for now.

Maths week 10

Today in maths we made a column graph using Google sheets. It was about which drinks we preferred and our variable was gender.

My graph has pink columns for girls and blue columns for boys.  It’s called preferred drinks of Sharons math class.

In my graph I notice that fizzy had the least, with only two boys. The one that had the most was juice which had 7 girls and 7 boys.

Week 6 reflection

This week I have done lots of cool stuff and in this blog I am going to tell you about it.

For the past few weeks we have been going to Tech. It is a thing where you get to go to a place and do new things. In my sewing class we are making pillows. I finished the inner this week and now next week we have to build the patchwork. It is really fun.

One thing this week that was challenging was figuring out how to do my pillow inner without messing up. I had to keep checking the sewing machine on a piece of fabric to make sure I wouldn’t mess up the pillow.

One goal I have for next week is to finish my Fuggler. I didn’t finish it this week because I had to do the pillow inner this week.

I think I showed success when I finished the pillow inner without messing up. It was a big relief because I had to focus really hard so I didn’t go off the line.

Anyway that is basically what I did this week. See you next week!
